Seward Park is a beautiful 300-acre park, built around natural forest land, old growth forests, and is home to many resident eagle’s nests. Through its humble beginnings, this park has become a staple to its neighborhood, and hosts many events throughout the year.

Though the purchase of the Seward Park peninsula was proposed in 1892, the land wasn’t purchased until 1911, making the first years of the park development slow moving. When the Ship Canal was constructed, the now-lower Lake Washington exposed a grassy meadow along the now-swimming beach. In 1927, the bathhouse was constructed; fish ponds were built in 1935; in 1953, a Greek-style amphitheater was hollowed out on the south hillside and, for many years, became a scene of lavish orchestra, chorus, and dance productions.

Full of community amenities, this park boasts a 2.4 mile lakeside biking and walking path; a native plant garden; an art studio; miles of hiking trails through the old growth forest; shoreline beaches, canoeing, and swimming; various close-by boat launch options; children jungle gym; various picnic and BBQ sites; tennis courts, and plenty of parking.

The park is also home to the Seattle Park Environmental & Audubon Center – previously known as the Seward Park Inn (renovation completed in 2008).
