This public elementary school has a staff of 65, that serve the 540 approximate students in attendance. This school offers the normal language-mathematics-science classes, but also incorporates technology into each session. Music, arts, library, physical education, and integrated Spanish classes are also apart of the curriculum. Extra circulars include, before school choir, band & orchestra programs, robotics, chess, and art clubs.

Mercer Island schools are known for their great schools, which is habitually ranked #1 in Washington State, and Island Crest Elementary is not unlike that. An average of 87% of children are proficient or better at English Language Arts; while 84% of children are proficient or better in Mathematics; and 86% are proficient or better in Science. Hazelwood Elementary is a community-centric school, located on the edge of the Renton/Newcastle border.

 Overall, this school rates an 8 out of 10 on GreatSchools.org – with over 25 reviews and counting! SchoolDigger.com states the school has approximately 575 children, from kindergarten through 5th grade. Out of them, third graders average a score of 68 and 72, in Language Arts and Math respectfully; fourth graders average 70 and 64, Language Arts and Math, respectfully; and fifth graders average 74 and 73, in Language Arts and Math, respectfully.

Hazelwood Elementary ranks 3rd out of 14 elementary schools in the Renton School District, a 2016 school survey suggests. Test scores have stayed relatively steady through the past 10+ years. More information about the Renton School District test scores can be found on their website!

As a testament to the booming Renton population, enrollment has increased from about 450 to approximately 575 since 2011, with the average of full-time teachers also increasing during that time.
